Having read Law at Cambridge University and qualified as a Solicitor, Clare practiced in York for a few years before changing her career to become a professional artist. She is now represented by galleries in London and Oxfordshire. Clare has volunteered for various charities over the years including as Gift Aid Secretary for her local church for 20 years, Treasurer of the North Yorkshire branch of the
Art Fund for 10 years and as a Governor of Queen Margaret’s School for 7 years. She is a champion for the domestic violence charity
IDAS and is President of
Henshaws, the charity which supports those with visual impairments and other disabilities. Clare was High Sheriff of North Yorkshire in 2023-24. Clare and her husband, Mark, have lived in North Yorkshire for over 40 years and have 2 children and 3 grandchildren.
